The lagoon area includes a sandy beach front, life guards, bathrooms and changing rooms, cafeteria facilities and a mixture of shady spaces and wooden decks for sunbathing, relaxing and for enjoying the tropical lifestyle.

Children's play areas are also a very popular location for Cairns visitors. Muddy's playground is a popular spot and offers a mixture of water and play park facilities, also bathrooms and a cafeteria while the Esplanade Funship is another popular children’s play area which is located at the far northern end of the Cairns Esplanade.

For the older children the skate park will provide hours of entertainment. At 2,315m2 the skate park is one of Australia’s largest skate parks and is a very popular location for locals and tourists alike who seek some more exciting activities.
